Really.... I am shocked...
In my lifetime (career in the Army) two Presidents set us back years with WRT to Terrorism and Countering Terrorism, and with regards to our inherent role as the leader of the free world....
- President Bill Clinton who took essential assets out of Somalia and then quickly vacated Somalia after Oct 93 - soon after he took office; not saying we should have been there, but leaving so abruptly, sent a clear message - that we did not have the stomach for actual warfare. The list for his 8 years is extensive...
- Then, comes President Barrack Obama, who takes us rapidly out of Iraq when it was not yet time, and had a National Security Strategy of avoidance... His list is more extensive than the first.
Nothing goes away, except your teeth, if you avoid it...

Maybe he thought because they got UBL on his watch he had checked that block and then took a defensive posture. It doesn't work that way. As you know, any defense in depth requires agressive patrolling outside the wire. That can't all be on the net and requires active measures on the ground. Their only publicized cyber attack on Iran (Stuxnet) set them back a bit with their centrifuges, but due to Israel getting overzealous was exposed. The attacks on US and oil industry due to that exposure diminished the overall gains from the project.

IMHO, we finally have a President who is willing to send a very clear message to any nation or terrorist organization who would wish harm on US citizens. It reminds me of a remark he made in one of his campaign trail speeches "I'll bomb the shit out of them."
