Action against the people that manhandled the SMSGT should be taken. The CO does not need another leadership position. The SP that told him to get off base should be dealt with. There were several wrongs and mistakes made in this matter. It should have never happened no matter what. The SMSGT looks as he isn't going to drop it. The AF should go ahead and take action before this becomes more than a few networks decideing to air it. I am a shame of this. It bring discredit on the AF and the high ranking NCO and the CO. This is a poor example for our younger troops. My AF wasn't like this. Today's AF bought this now you have to make it right.

The only thing I would say in disagreement is the SP that told him to get off the base may have been acting in good faith and according to a lawful order.

Sgt (Join to see) - Very possible, but the SMSGT claims he was trying to re port the assault. All I know is that is one big mess that has even made the Fox news. Should have never happened.

I had my Group Commander do my retirement because of conflicts with my Commander. My commander was angry, but there was nothing he could do about it. He did have the NCO who coordinated the ceremony use a small room at the NCO club, to limit the number of people I could invite. I knew a great number of people on the base and they all showed up, it was standing room only. I felt awesome that my coworkers and friends all came out and didn't care if they had to stand. This included high ranking officers, so it made my commander look bad. Like they say "What comes around, goes around."

All too often COs forget that the Retirement Ceremony is for the Retiree, and to honor tradition.

Retirement should be about the individual. If they want a retirement ceremony, then it should be on their own terms as long as it remains in good taste (if using an on post venue). I feel bad for the guy. I feel even worse knowing that we have leadership who would act in this way while proclaiming that they are in fact "leaders". I hope people respect my wishes when I retire. Thankfully, the last thing I want is a ceremony, awards, fanfare, or any other form of pomp and circumstance. I just want to quietly clean out my workspace, clear CIF with little issue, sign out and then stop shaving my face for the rest of my days. You want to thank me? Swing by for a beer on a Friday. Positively no drama. That's a promise.

I am not a fan of "formal" retirement ceremonies. Its all become so fake. I prefer a off site affair where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves, be honest, and celebrate ones career properly.

That's exactly what I did. No ceremony... The guys in my shop asked me if I wanted a going away luncheon? I requested an in shop potluck...Supervision to include the GP Commander who we directly worked for was invited...All no-shows... Hell, I didn't even receive a Retirement MSM after 21 years.
