Action against the people that manhandled the SMSGT should be taken. The CO does not need another leadership position. The SP that told him to get off base should be dealt with. There were several wrongs and mistakes made in this matter. It should have never happened no matter what. The SMSGT looks as he isn't going to drop it. The AF should go ahead and take action before this becomes more than a few networks decideing to air it. I am a shame of this. It bring discredit on the AF and the high ranking NCO and the CO. This is a poor example for our younger troops. My AF wasn't like this. Today's AF bought this now you have to make it right.

I had my Group Commander do my retirement because of conflicts with my Commander. My commander was angry, but there was nothing he could do about it. He did have the NCO who coordinated the ceremony use a small room at the NCO club, to limit the number of people I could invite. I knew a great number of people on the base and they all showed up, it was standing room only. I felt awesome that my coworkers and friends all came out and didn't care if they had to stand. This included high ranking officers, so it made my commander look bad. Like they say "What comes around, goes around."

Retirement should be about the individual. If they want a retirement ceremony, then it should be on their own terms as long as it remains in good taste (if using an on post venue). I feel bad for the guy. I feel even worse knowing that we have leadership who would act in this way while proclaiming that they are in fact "leaders". I hope people respect my wishes when I retire. Thankfully, the last thing I want is a ceremony, awards, fanfare, or any other form of pomp and circumstance. I just want to quietly clean out my workspace, clear CIF with little issue, sign out and then stop shaving my face for the rest of my days. You want to thank me? Swing by for a beer on a Friday.
