I got to Turkey a few years after Ton-Ton took over from the civvy gvmt. Turks on the street were as happy as clams. They even had friends who were Kurds or Armenians. NATO members were very welcome, and if you tried to. Speak Turkish, they beamed. Don’t know what it’s like now.
