A similar situation is happening in the Mississippi with Asian Carp except the Carp were introduced as a "Farm Raised" fish until they escaped due to flooding whereas the Crabs seem to have migrated naturally. It is feared if the Carp get into the Great Lakes they will be very detrimental to many native species especially Walleye and other game fish. Economically it would be a disaster to the game fish industry.
