What a strange article. NPR could have just as easily titled it "Donald Trump is Correct on the victimization of U.S. Steel. The actual facts presented in the article were. 1) US steel is being harmed by foreign subsidies. 2) China has been dumping cheap steel in the US market.

I seen this and knew that the President wouldn’t do that.. maybe that other guy and his ‘diversity is good for the country’ gig.. we know that npr leans left... so it’s to be expected that they’d word it like that.. trying to poke a stick in the
The lion’s rib..

I always thought attacking steel and coal was to attack the foundation of America by globalists. Nothing reads i hate America more than cheap crap from China and EPA overreach.
Tariffs and defund the EPA. Bring on fair trade.

Studied this in college, the mini-mills are just about everywhere now and not only in the South but in the Midwest as well. I know Milwaukee has Charter Steel and the owner has his own private train in the Milwaukee Amtrak Depot. Mini-Mills are more nimble in that they can mix custom steel alloys a lot easier than the big mills as well as some of them take in scrap steel. Distribution of mini-mills is also more efficient from a production and economic standpoint vs concentrating them in one area of the country just due to transportation impacts on the rail and highway system. So I view the mini-mills as does the article as the Steel Industry evolving. One thing missing though from the article which was not covered all that well. When an industry shifts like this and one area of the country is hit hard economically because of it there should be some type of government funded remediation in the hard hit area. We shouldn't just walk away and shrug our shoulders. We do that with DoD post closures we should do it with industry closures as well.

Interesting, never heard of mini-mills before.. A post closer near me during Bill Clinton's Presidency was a hit and one of the benefits was going to be industrial zone, such as manufacturing companies. Good trade-off, however what happened was the companies left. One big name went to Mexico you know..Another Clinton brain-child NAfta

SPC James Harsh - Ross Perot warned everyone about NAFTA via CNN and Larry King.......nobody listened, much of what he said came to pass. Just as his predictions on General Motors came to pass. On the post closures, was that Ft Devens? Not all of the remediation there as been positive I will admit. However the DoD is supposed to throw a lifeline and the local community or state is supposed to provide for follow-on attention. A lot of times I see the DoD throw a lifeline with transition money and the locals or states never follow-on.........and it just withers.
