Wife's family had farms in Iowa in 80s so have some knowledge of what went on then. Article speaks around the fact that during that time many small family farms were gobbled up and became the mega industrial farms of today. Corn and wheat farming has always had its ups and downs hence the huge grain banks that can hold back grains for times when prices improve. Those small family farms that survived the 80s need to gear up for another round of consolidation. Simple fact is that most land doesn't go fallow when a small farm goes under. That land still produces, just for a huge corporation, not Farmer Brown.
