Story also mentioned that the rightful owner of the stolen car is not facing any criminal charges. Deceased boy’s father can complain, but DA is not touching the case.

Agree. From the police statement, this was a self-defense issue, not a "track down the criminal and shoot him" issue.

I can't say I have any sympathy for this little Rat stealing another's car and carrying a firearm in the process and certainly no good intent from any standpoint. Protecting You own property is NOT a vigilante, maybe the Father should have spent more time teaching that little Maggot right from wrong which it seems He failed to do. It may have been a better decision to contact the Police rather than approach Himself and put His own safety at risk. Myself, I do own firearms but would call the Police first rather than go after someone Myself and even if the arrive they have no way of knowing why You are carrying a gun and if Your the criminal or not and besides they have the safety net of additional help that You as an individual don't. Taking that risk in My opinion isn't a good idea but on the other hand if someone shoots at Me while I'm armed In a Him or Me choice I'll pick Him !

NOTE: I will ad with 40 years of Full time Police work I have taken in armed people involved in shootings on crime scenes without ever shooting even one. Other than Vietnam I've never shot a firearm at another Human being although there I made some Him and Me choices and I guess it's pretty clear who lost. Never was a choice I wanted to make even there but You do what You have to to survive.

I certainly can’t argue with your logic. Regarding car theft I am not shooting someone unless I am threatened.
A surgeon I worked with had a tracker placed on his college sons car, the son did not know about it. He was at a party, when he was supposed to be studying for an exam, when the car was stolen. The son called his dad, the dad called the Savannah PD, and directed the officers to the car.
Dad was ticked the son was not doing what he was supposed to be doing, son was ticked his dad had low jacked his car, that his dad bought for him.

Maj Robert Thornton - It's been a long time since I thought about Savannah & HAAF. Mostly good experiences, some bad, but I was a different man when I left than I was when I arrived.

MSgt Robert "Rock" Aldi the son had a few definite issues, dad not only wanted to know where car was, but it also let him know where the son was!

Very sad. I do believe this will happen again and again as more people arm themselves. There may be a lot of lives lost over trivial things.
Is an Audi worth a boy's life?

Not to me, but the kid was only killed when he shot at the car owner. I would shoot over something like that, because the next victim may not have the training I have.

CPT (Join to see) - No evidence so far that the kid was the one shooting.

MSG Stan Hutchison - They actually did determine the kid had shot and so did the car owner, what they have not determined for certain to this point it seems is Who fired First and that's still under investigation. We will have to watch and see what comes out next if anything more can be determined. It does appear however the car owner fired far more shots than the kid.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - I fear we are going to see many more such incidents.
