Outrageous and completely uncalled for. I heard that around 40% of ballot applications are being rejected in Texas.

Major McLaughlin, just because you haven't encountered any problems voting doesn't mean they don't exist. Do you live in an "undesirable" neighborhood? Are you a lower or middle income person of color? Do you have an ethnic sounding name? No? Then you will probably have zero chance of having trouble voting.

This is complete BS. I vote in Texas and it is incredibly easy. I’ve done the absentee ballot, early voting, and Election Day voting. Registration was easy and applying for an absentee ballot was easy. CNN makes it sound like a bigger issue than it is from a single anecdotal example which could have happened in any state.

SPC Kevin Ford there’s also another side of the world where, “what do you mean I have to be responsible for getting my shit straight?” With regards to properly registering to vote and figuring out how to do it in time for the next election. Your article speaks to an admin problem, not a restrictive issue with regards to voter eligibility. This could and does happen everywhere.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - This may shock you but I agree that this will likely be fixed for most people in a few election cycles.

SPC Kevin Ford I appreciate that. What actually shocks me is when people don’t understand the basic truths about how things work and get screwed up in any government system. All I want is a secure means to vote illegally which enables all Americans to vote (regardless of their sex, color, ethnicity, religion, etc). This should not be sacrificed for anecdotal examples of where admins make mistakes and/or people fail to prepare (and then go on to blame the system for their irresponsibility).

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - I'm going to step back and not be sarcastic for one of the few times in my life :). We're in a mess. We have to have trust in elections. The right is suspicious of the motives of the left on why they want as many people to vote as possible and the left if suspicious of the motives of the right on any restrictions they want to enact. I won't say who has the best case, perhaps we can agree that both camps have reasonable reasons to distrust the other.
The truth is we need to both allow as many people to vote as possible while also making sure they are indeed eligible to vote. That just seems like a no brainer to me. It sounds like it is a no brainer to you too. Unfortunately the devil is always in the details and that trust issue is going to haunt us every step of the way in legislation by both the left and the right.
