Are we alone in the Universe. The probably is YES. Now why do I say this. Its simple. About the only livable areas are in the outer arms of our galaxy and this is because the inner portions are deadly to life. So using our galaxy as a template its haed to believe life exist elsewhere.
Don't get me wrong as life always finds a way. On a daily basis I drive by cactus growing out of solid rock or out of the side of a rock face. Its amazing. Yet the closer you get to the center one deals with wandering planets and stars, Supernovae, and other threats.

Life indeed will find a way. I think the sheer numbers involved dictate life exists out there...the odds of intelligent life though are smaller, but as it is said in Dumb and Dumber -- there is a chance... Best to contemplate this over a good drink or two

We are lucky as we live in our galaxy habitable zone. Since we don't have on-going star formation in our area and only one star near by, our sun, we are quite fortunate.
