While few people knew that famous artists and teacher Rob Ross served a career in the Air Force, even less people know the truth behind his trademark Afro-style hair.
According to Ross’s business partner, The Joy of Painting host was a struggling artists once he got out of the military. He went on to be known for his soothing voice, natural paintings, and of course his curly, Afro hairstyle…
But now evidence has come to light that reveals that Ross’s Afro style trademark was actually a perm.
Kowalksi told NPR in an interview that after Ross got out of the Air Force, there was one reason and one reason only he permed his hair. He wanted to save money.

I had read that once he got out, he wanted to be rid of his military cut. As for his perm, he actually ended up hating it, but because it became his signature look, he didn't want to change it.

To be honest I had never heard of Rob Ross before I saw your post TSgt Joe C.. In any event I ma glad to learn he swerved 20 years in the USAF.
