Why isn't he getting disability if he has work related PTSD? The article said he reached an agreement to leave the PD. What did he agree to?
And that does seem to suck, because at my job if I am laid off within 2 years of retirement age I get the normal pension just like I had worked that time upon reaching retirement age. ie if my early retirement age is 55 and they lay me off anytime after I turn 53 my pension starts at 55 just like I had worked up until I was 55. Although if I quit voluntarily I don't get that. So maybe he just screwed up in accepting the offer without looking into the ramifications to his pension.
