The Iranians have not had a problem with arresting people and using them as bargaining chips. I wouldn't go. I would also like it if every person leaving the US to participate in the race was looked in the eyes and told "we aren't coming to get you when you are arrested for chewing gum and walking or with whatever trumped up charge the Iranians apply."
