One of my favorite WWII battles as explained by one of my favorite military historians, Col Glantz. While many focus on Operation Uranus they pass over the sister operation, Operation Mars. It didn't go so well for the Russians and represents a notable defeat for Zhukov. At the turning point in the Eastern Front the Germans were still a force to be reckoned with as show here when Army Group Center held and inflicted high casualties on the Soviets.
