Former Joint Chiefs chairman: Nuclear war with North Korea closer than ever

Today I was asked to name in 2017 briefly in 2 words. I said 'mobilization likely'. I met Admiral Mullen when he came to see us at provincial reconstruction team Farah in Western Afghanistan in January, 2009. 60 Minutes was in tow.
He was like a rock star and he gave out his Command coin and he posed for pictures with individual members of our unit. Our unit was 50% Navy so they really appreciated him being there. He was able to get our duffle bags out of Pakistan which had most of our cold weather gear.
I have felt this is like the summer of 1941 all through 2017. The big difference was that in the spring of 1940 the US began the draft. A year later, those drafted were extended for one more year and all the Army National Guard and Army Reserve units were called up for one-year active duty. That is why you had Army National Guard units in the Philippines, Guam and Midway.
We have not done enough in preparation for war but I feel that we are in the same situation they were in. Our unit Readiness is low and our military size is small. That is why I still feel that the words 'mobilization likely' still applies. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and we will have a happy 2018. Happy New Year everybody!

If the past three administrations (Clinton, Bush, Obama) had backed their words with deeds instead of kicking the can down the road from president to president ... we'd not be confronted with a situation in which nK has the nuclear weapons they swore we wouldn't allow them to get ... or the means of delivering them. I'd simply note that Admiral (Ret) Mullen served as C/JCS under two of those presidents (Bush and Obama).

What would you have had previous administrations do? There's a reason a stalemate has been in place for so long, and it's because it caused the least harm.

SSG Jessica Bautista - There are a number of things previous administrations could have done ... but that is not the point. Previous administrations failed to prevent nK from obtaining nuclear weapons ... and apparently the means to deliver them. Mullen worked for two of those administrations as C/JCS. It is a bit disingenuous, one might even say hypocritical, to be criticizing Trump's administration ... when the failure of the two one worked in to constrain nK's nuclear ambitions are why we are where we are.
I disagree that the stalemate has caused the least harm and that that is the reason for it. At least three presidents have lacked the intestinal fortitude to confront nK ... with the end result being that nK has what all three of those presidents swore up and down on the campaign trail that they would never allow Nk to get.
