The man is being truthful, for once. The current administration has had many spin-makers that it is hard to determine truth from fiction. When a CDR tells the current story the way it is (without sugar coating), it is best for the troops to hear that there is no pussyfooting going on.

SGM Barry Kindred Many in the civilian community don't understand that we are engaged and have troops in combat. Great article, thanks for sharing.

The National Guard and the Reserves need to be prepared for when the op tempo increases, however if we are using them to get the job done during the new normal level of operations... how will we be prepared to rapidly scale up operations should a ground war against Iran or North Korea erupt?

The US has almost 1.5 million active duty military personnel not counting government civilians and contractors. If that's not enough to sustain current operations, then I suspect what's really needed is some serious restructuring.

SGT (Join to see) - A lot of support missions previously performed by soldiers are not performed by contractors and government civilians. If we add those numbers back in a different picture emerges. I suspect that there are almost as many contractors and government civilians working for DoD these days as there are soldiers.

This is a little old, however since 2012 the ratio of soldiers to civilians and contractors is probably the same. http://pogoblog.typepad.com/pogo/2012/11/dod-contractors-cost-nearly-3-times-more-than-dod-civilians.html
