Stop it. Don't make me come down there. "I'll tell you about football." Paul W. "Bear" Bryant. I believe the count is Alabama 17 championships, Auburn TWO.

I admire what Alabama has done on the football field, MAJ Montgomery Granger. I always have! I have, however, often wondered why a number that’s already virtually unrivaled is embellished.
Here’s an Alabama football program from 1983 claiming SIX national championships. Add six more (1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2017) and the sum is twelve. Don’t tell me how. I’ve already heard all the stories. Twelve is unrivaled, admirable and enviable, and by Alabama’s own admission, should be the total number.
You brought up the count. Not me. I just put up a photo of a 5’7”, 179 lbs. running back, crushing the jaw of a 6’1”, 200 lbs. defensive back. No mention of score or national championships. Just said, “Gotta stick with my Tigers!”
On a related note, even if Alabama had a 1,000 football national championships, I’d still rather be an Auburn alumnus!
I see the photo of Coach Bryant above. Did you see the photo of him on which I tagged you?

No offense intended, MSG, but them land grant universities aren't much on math or research. War Eagle! But a tiger mascot? I guess 'Bama isn't much better with a pachyderm and Roll Tide! ANyhow, two minutes on the Web will reveal the 17 championships. Pictured in your program is the first black quarterback from Alabama, Walter Lewis. He got death threats before homecoming the year he started. I was there to witness his prowess, that saw the Tide try something new - The Broken 'Bone! I attended from 1980-1985 and graduated with a BS in Education, and then went on, at the behest of my department chairperson, to earn a Masters Degree at Teachers College - Columbia University. Nice picture of the Bear, BTW. Hooah!
