I didn't see them complain about the British and Americans sitting on the East German Border for 40 years. My cynicism says they are more worried about paying for it.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Cable is an Anglicized German name, the original was Goebell, so I'm just trying to keep the family straight.
The original Cable was a Hessian, Casper Goebell. Captured at Trenton and paroled, and was sent to the Carolina's under Cornwallis. Somewhere along the line, he switched sides and stayed in America after the War, as did a lot of the Hessian troops.

Old article repackaged as a new article. Non issue. West Germany absorbed East Germany's **ENTIRE** military. They made it work and fly MIGs alongside Eurofighters, etc. The German constitution was amended to allow for foreign excursions and German air, land and sea forces have seen action. Libya, A'stan, etc. Now the fact that Merkel has been able to dance with Putin using mere economic "muscle" versus Stalingrad-esque might is really a crazy situation. I mean...do we WANT to be at war with Germany? Do we want Germany invading things again? I'd think a "quiet" "subdued" Germany should be a source of calming. Not panic.

It's no different than that of Japan, both entirely understandable social reluctances after all that happened last century, clearly....
