In 1951 Germany's first postwar armed forces unit was formed - the Bundesgrenzschutz or Federal Border Guard. Until the formation of the Bundeswehr in 1955, it was effectively Germany's army. Armed and equipped from the old wartime Wehrmacht, the BGS guarded the inner German border between East and West Germany.

SPC Margaret Higgins No I was Never "Stationed" There but. There is always a But. I "Vacationed" There in a Town called Bad Aibling. Army Base with Sailors. I was in the Company of a German Border Guard for a Bit of That. With a Name like Wilhelm Wesling Nagel, Generally I was Always Greeted Like a Long Lost Cousin. Occasionally I Would Try out My Limited German Language Skills. Best One was Greeting a Lady on the Path to the Park in German and She Went off in a Long Discussion "Nine Sprechen Ze Deutch" to which She Answered. "Oh You're from the Base" LOL! She had Married a Soldier from the Base and Spoke Excellent English and German.
