The video this student posted was reprehensible.
But she has a very strong case against the university (if his disenrollment was involuntary) on 1st Amendment grounds. We don't get to pick and choose which speech is allowed.

1. Read the article. It was a young woman who posted the video (she. not he)
2. First Amendment does NOT apply in this situation. The US Constitution provides for freedom of speech without fear of government persecution. Hardin Simmons University is a private Baptist school. As an educational institution of religious background, it has the right to dismiss a student for violating its own rules.

LTC Eugene Chu - The article does not say how she became disenrolled, just that the school "started the disciplinary process". Whether the institution of learning is public or private is irrelevant; if it is receiving public money at all, it is subject to the same civil rights rules the University of Texas would be.
