What a complete waste of an article. It is sad what passes for journalism these days. Fluff articles that are long on sensationalism, and short on fact. Thinly veiled hit pieces against people they do not like.
First, the article cites anonymous senior GOP aides. A convenient way to make up your own facts and claim they were ‘leaked’ by an insider. A great way to spread lies, slander, and pretend to have been told this information by ‘someone on the inside’ without having to go to any of the trouble of proving or backing up what you are writing
Second, Trump is right. President Jackson did prevent a Civil War the second time that secession was threatened. The first threat of secession came from New England. In 1814, the Hartford Convention assembled delegates from the New England states to attempt to secede from the U.S. in opposition to the War of 1812. The second time secession was threatened it was by South Carolina in 1828 protesting tariffs it claimed were harming their economy. President Jackson threatened to send in Federal Troops to bring the State of South Carolina back into line to negotiate. The third time was the charm and President Lincoln got to deal with that in 1862.
So, President Trump was right. President Jackson did stop a Civil War. President Jackson went on to warn that this was not over, and that the next time it would be over the issue of “states’ rights and slavery”.
Before you start condemning President Trump for being deranged, you should probably do a little homework and learn how much of our U.S. history is NOT taught in schools anymore. You are making accusations of derangement and dementia based on something that the President said that was spot on accurate and correct.
So who is the one with diminished mental capacity? The person who accurately relays historical examples from our forgotten history, or the person who does not even know their on national history and has the chutzpah to insult those who do.
Answer that for yourself.
