I don't know if you've heard, but, we have a serious man power shortage going on right now and to say that there is some animosity in the ranks at the idea of someone coming in wanting special treatment and a surgery that would result in excluding them from their primary job, would be the understatement of the year.
If they want to come in and serve, fine, whatever, don't care, get in line like everyone else. But, if they are coming in for the wrong reasons then there's going to be issues.... just like some wierdo who came in to claim PTSD from basic (oh yes they are real), the Army doesn't have time for it and it usually ends poorly for said party.

SSgt Addison R. - I'm only stating a small piece of it, of course there is more to the issue, but, to answer a part of your mountain of text, the guy was a 3rd generation welfare baby and was trying to get an additional income, found out as much because he told other soldiers what he was doing. This kind of special comes few and far between.
I would argue for those that would join for said surgery, that they would forfeit a portion of their GI to cover their surgery after their service to the Army (how much taken is up for argument). I have yet see someone treated unjustly by leadership save for those who tried to burn their leadership (what goes around comes around).

Great news. The entire military can be made up of mentally ill people who voluntarily mutilate their bodies to fulfill some imaginary gender. Start the draft now.
