PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - PO; "Evangelicals" have led all of the significant social progress movements from "Abolition" to "Abortion".
It isn't the "Evangelicals" that people have stopped taking seriously it's the "Noisy Evangelicals Who Are Making Really Big Bucks Selling God".

Need another John Brown Evangelical to stand up for the Oppressed. I strongly suspect he would be carrying the Rainbow Flag now.

In reading the article, I found that it says a lot about what the Evangelicals say and what they wanted to try to impose. With that being said, I have always said that the Bible is not absolute and that we are 2,000 years better educated by see the Bible first as a historical book, and to understand what is being said by reading as a metaphor instead of literal. And that we as Christians should be following as best as possible the teachings of Christ vs trying to know him. That can go a long way in getting to understand in what was being said, and you can still get to know him by following his teachings.
What a lot Evangelicals do is try to explain the bible and make it absolute. There is no explanation nor is it absolute due to the different interpretations. Otherwise there would only be one Christian denomination.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I often say spirituality is the relationship that an individual has with the divine as they perceive it. It is a beautiful thing, and cannot be wrong because it is such a personal experience. On the other hand, religion is the organization which has developed over time to take advantage of spirituality to control people, collect wealth, and gain power. Religion is one of the greatest evils that has been brought upon this earth.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - PO; I make it a three way split "Spirituality", "Religion" and "God Inc.".
"Spirituality" is personal, "Religion" is an organized creed, and "God Inc." is a profit making enterprise.
