I don't see that happening. We have innumerable protesters and counter-protesters. Everyone's fired up already. But frankly such a demonstration would only inflame those who wouldn't approve of such a demonstration. I don't know why France is different, but here, such activity would be seen as intolerable by most people I know. We don't have any problems with public demonstrations by any religious group, or even the likely counter protests outside.

But the use of private security to protect law-breakers and intimidate others exercising their free speech? That's every Texan's wet-dream. We'd go in guns blazing, killing hundreds. This may seem outrageous and far-fetched, but I honestly believe if you're making a public demonstration that resembles enemies of the state, and arm yourself to ensure its success, you're going to invite those you threaten to arm themselves as well. Somebody would get hurt.

If civics were taught the way it is supposed to be taught, Americans would understand the relationship between rights and responsibilities. The French have no protection against those who want to exercise their rights irresponsibly. We do. We have a Constitution that proscribes that relationship, that all citizens have rights that they may exercise so long as they do not infringe on the rights of others. Sadly, we don't teach civics well and few Americans are left to defend the Constitution. They even went so far as to elect a President who complained that the Constitution prevented him from doing those things that he felt needed doing. Fortunately, we prevented another from ascending to the White House who was prepared to extend that philosophy and might've had the opportunity to pack the Supreme Court with Justices who would have given legal force to that endeavor.
