We require most people who occupy positions where people's lives are in their hands to take physicals (think of police, firemen, pilots, etc). Why shouldn't we care about the health of the President?

We absolutely should care about the health of the President. I've had coughing fits while teaching an entire class and no one ever questioned my ability to do so. The most I've ever been asked was if I was OK.
