When you change the perspective, your view of history changes. Generally history is written by the victors

I would say that adage of history being written by the victors is probably as wrong as wrong gets. Such is good propaganda - but not a truth in itself. History is re-written by the most current victor.... now that might be more a truth. Lots of examples of it.. and history has to wade through that to get the real story vs the added on ones or myths. I need look no further than Italy - which won ZERO of its wars with Austria.. and yet the history of those wars was re-written by Fascist Italy in the early 20th Century after Austria was defeated in WWI.

Having seen again and again the re-writes of history by current victors or those who own the terrain now... it is always a jungle to be cleared in research.

LTC Eric Udouj my husband is a historian so he spends a lot of time wading through the "rewrites" and the Point of View.
