Giving recognition where recognition is due SPC Douglas Bolton, RallyPoint and Kanika Misra of RallyPoint deserve the credit for this. They have begun this to hopefully become an annual event to take place Nationwide every Memorial Day. Cudo's to the Alabama National Cemetery for providing an amazing level of support, as well as Lowes in providing needed equipment to make this happen. The donor, Mr. Gene Smith of Hoover, AL, for donating $2500 to purchase over 2600 roses, which the number of 2600 was only because of an insanely great discount by David's Wholesale Florists. In the area of flowers, RallyPoint also gets credit for providing the first roses to get us kicked off.

My regret in this is that I could not organize in the way I wanted. The goal was to raise enough money for roses for all 5000 graves at the National Cemetery. After spending over a week in the hospital and another week sitting with our mom until we found that she would have to be pulled of the vent, I was left with very little time to prep.

This was unexcusable because I had a month prior to all of this to begin, I simply failed to do so. Not meeting the 5000 goal is a result of my procrastination; however, this can and will be easily corrected for next year.

I also have to give a great deal of credit to Patrick Johnson of the Homeless Veterans Initiative of Alabama for taking the reins in light of my medical illnesses to make this work. I needed a fire lit under me and this trooper brought a propane torch and a bucket of gas to get me going.

If you honestly want to know what I put into it besides simply getting the word out, I got the donations.

That being said, all the credit should be directed at these individuals and organizations, because without them, we would be operating a very limited operation Monday. Since their involvement, however, it appears as if we had been planning it for a year.

My health has taken another bad turn, and Patrick Johnson has taken on the role of coordinator now, and I look forward to seeing him on Memorial Day, as far as working with him and RallyPoint throughout the year to ensure that next years program not only gives the impression of a fine tuned machine, but IS a fine tuned machine.

(Pardon typos, I am having to be medicated a bit right now.)
