Vastly different situations. In the article they point out different countries situations. Below are some statistics for reference, figures have been rounded.

Population of U.S. - 319 million
Land Mass of U.S. - 3.8 million square miles
Population of U.K. - 64 million
Land Mass of U.K. 94,000 square miles
Population of Norway - 5 million
Land Mass of Norway - 149,000 square miles
Population of New Zealand - 4.4 million
Land Mass of New Zealand - 104,000 square miles
Population of Iceland - 323,000
Land Mass of Iceland - 40,000 square miles
Population of Ireland - 4.6 million
Land Mass of Ireland - 35,000 square miles
Total Population of countries in article - 78.3 million
Total Land Mass of countries in article - 500,000 square miles

Nothing adds up. This is not even a comparison. It takes different strategies to defend and protect larger areas with a larger police force.

I do agree with the writer of the article when he says more training is needed.

Yes, training is a big issue and some States had training standards statewide for academies ans well as in service. Massachusetts is one of those states. I watched incident with excessive fore used in situations We were trained NOT to do what I saw some of those officers in other area doing. I knew from watching some of the videos that officer was going to jail and lack of proper training was a major factor. There are threats that You may need lethal force to save Your own life or that of another but You better know what You are doing and if it was justified. Of course its easy for armchair commandos that have no idea to second guess what is and isn't needed and an officer may only have seconds to react. One phrase I've heard is "it better to be tried by twelve than carried by Six " Yes, a Police Officers life is at risk each and every time He goes to work, You never know what may happen during Your shift. I did spend over 40 years in Full time Law Enforcement, both Military and civilian.

APCs and water cannons. Good beat downs with those thin rubber batons. Gas.
The unarmed Bobbie has armed backup close by. They evaluate the call then call for help. They get hurt too. Dead also.
Extremely naive story based on countries who are homegeneous. We are not that way. Maybe European socialism, especially in the Nordic countries, has better social control then our free society?

Iceland is a bad example. They are 93% Icelandic thus they tend to hold the same overall views and share the same culture. The darkside of diversity is the level of violence and extremes of views. Unforturnely, countries like Iceland is also a shining example extremist groups use to keep cultures and race pure.
