The way to understand how wealthy a politician really is and to determine how lucrative it is to be a politician, is to look at the net worth of their near relatives and associates (spouse, children, parents, siblings, business partners, charitable foundations, etc) and compare the difference in their wealth before and after they entered politics.

Did you notice the amount of politicians have real estate investments on that list? That was eye opening.

You're being satirical right? You didn't know there were Democrat millionaires? Money doesn't know party affiliation so how is any of this a surprise to anyone. You're a retired LTC, I'm sure you know how net worth works.

MAJ James Woods - why? Democrats still don't realize they were the party of the Klan.

MAJ James Woods - Lincoln's income tax was to fund the Union's civil war effort, one of the conditions was that the Revenue Act of 1862 was self canceling in 1866. Surprise! It is 1872. The war is over. The income tax is still in place, until SCOTUS rules an income tax unconstitutional. It took until February 3, 1913 for the 16th amendment to be ratified, allowing Congress to be the money sucking beast it has become; a sad day for America.

@MAJ John Bell, LOL! Stop trying so hard. Just can't handle the fact that Lincoln was more than a Republican by affiliation but a leader with vision who understood some progressive policies were good for the nation.

@LTC Dave Brown, maybe when you accept racism existed in both parties because geography played a bigger role than party affiliation. You show me a Southern Democrat who supported Jim Crow and anti Civil Rights, I'll show you a Southern Republican with similar beliefs. Do you need to be reminded that Civil Rights Act took bipartisanship to combat the racism of the south. Not denying racism didn't exist elsewhere but don't remember any Jim Crow laws in the NE, NW, Mid W; it was more subtle, not overt.

With the exception of a few that were rich (or have rich husbands), most of them became millionaires after they got elected.
