I believe we all know that packed in the Perseverance Rover is a helicopter of sorts... It is a feasibility test for this copter as the Martian atmosphere is extremely thin in comparison to Earth's atmosphere... For reference, Mars' atmosphere is delineated as follows:
The atmosphere of Mars is much thinner than Earth's. The average surface pressure is only about 610 pascals (0.088 psi) which is less than 1% of the Earth's value.
Carbon dioxide: 95.32%
Average surface pressure: 610 Pa (0.088 psi)
Carbon monoxide: 0.0747%
Argon: 1.9%
This will be a first for the U.S. if the helo flies as intended... The video content provides a great cross section of what to expect...
Enjoy!
