I like the Economist but not the paywall and the occasional blindness to obvious policy choices.
If only we had the ability to pump domestic oil. Oh, we do, but the federal government has decided to block drilling on federal land? It appears through the current administration actions, the Democratic party really wants Americans to experience high energy prices.

LTC John Shaw Spot on Colonel. When the left shut down the pipeline prices started climbing. But the left says it is the rights fault. Trump in office, pipeline open, lower prices. Biden shuts it down, prices climb but the left still blames Trump.

In 2019, the refinery at Philadelphia had a fire, another of many. They used to process 190,000 barrels of oil a day there. They decided last year to shut it down. While I am sure some of the energy problems have also been created by policy, like stopping work on the pipeline, some of this would have happened anyway, and actually has nothing to do with left/right. We already had a shortage of refineries, and I guess the keystone pipeline was supposed to feed others that now have to use rail, but this had to hurt where I live and be part of the reason its shot up here. https://www.forbes.com/sites/andystone/2020/02/17/with-ample-drama-largest-east-coast-refinery-meets-its-end/?sh=74d7b58f7ef7
After Explosion, Philadelphia Refinery To Be Permanently Shut Down
The explosion should have marked the end of the Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery, a business that had emerged from bankruptcy just a year before.
