If we had honest newsreporters then we would probably have honest politicians.

The New York Times had a journalist who won the Pulitzer Prize for lying about Stalin and what he did to the peasants of the Ukraine. There has never been honest journalists. The problem for Journo lists (if you pay attention) is there is alternative media both left and right,Drudge report, Free Republic, etc.

I would beg to differ. I grew up in a time of the last honest journalists, people who learned the craft working on newspapers rather than sitting in college classrooms. All had bias but understood that it belonged on the editorial pages. The chief weapon in the fight to avoid bias in news stories was brevity. It's hard to voice an opinion when you have just enough column inches to relate the who, what, why, where, when, and how of a story.

CPT Jack Durish - I will disagree. Kennedy got away with a lot because the media shaped the discourse. The whole "Camalot" thing was the press keeping Kennedy's womanizing out of the papers. Joe Kennedy's ties to the mafia were hidden as was the Mafia's monetary support of Kennedy.

LTC David Brown - What are you disagreeing with? I grew up reading newspapers in the 1950's before the first onslaught of college-educated "journalists" arrived in numbers sufficient to turn news into propaganda (such as that which created the illusion of Camelot). The real changes came during the 1960's. Camelot was a precursor of greater lies to come

I remember when Walter Cronkite was thought of as one of the most honest and trusted people in America. I remember watching newsreel footage of the war in Vietnam on the six O'clock news, headlines every day on how the war was going........! 9 companies now control the Worlds information 5 of them are here, infotainment. They all have the same stories, some almost verbatim! Over and over again. Consolidation, ROI....Bottom line is........The "Benjamins" Ultimately.
