The other day, my boss gave me my yearly evaluation, and she asked me if I have ever heard of servant leadership- I said "yes, the Marines invented it" (keep in mind, my boss is "teflon" she throws anyone under the bus she can to get by, she thinks it's ok). By the end of the evaluation discussion, I was telling her was servant leadership was.

GySgt Melissa Gravila - Gunny, Either she does or does not know what Servant Leadership. Leadership is a two way street. If you're not happy with your evaluation, then I would recommend if she didn't give you the Why's and how to make an improvement on your next eval, then you ask her to sit down with her and go over the points that you can improve and why. If she cares about her staff and training them to be their best it would beloved her to adjust he personal feelings and think what's best for her employees not her own self worth.

CWO3 (Join to see) - agreed, the problem is is that deep down she doesn't.:( She has the nickname "teflon" because nothing sticks, I asked for specific examples of how I can improve, she couldn't give me any. I asked how could she hold me accountable for the shortfalls of another department (nursing) when I have no control over that department? Again, no response- so I asked what steps can I take to ensure I am ready for the next level? No response. It is very frustrating to say the least, but I will be a good little Marine, suck it up, and handle my business, because karma is a bitch and she will get hers

GySgt Melissa Gravila - Gunny, I thought you might come back with this situation and so let me give you little advice. I have over 38 years of experience and knowledge with people like this in and out of uniform They make life so hard for others by not knowing the HR regulations and they try their best to shift their responsibilities to someone else and are hurting your Company in the process. I would recommend that you insist that she inform you of the reason why your evaluation is not to her standards and why can't she give you the benefit of doubt. If she is still blinded by her own selfish greed then inform her that you would like to talk with her supervisor. Maybe, just maybe she will give it a second thought but if she says that you can't then go to HR and read the rules on how an evaluation is process properly. My guess is that your supervisor named Teflon is not up to snuff with the HR Evaluation process. If I'm right she'll sit down and discuss your recent evaluation. If not then she doesn't know her job and the HR Evaluation process and I would personally recommend she either read the stated procedures or her supervisor will hear from HR.

Chip, yes we do place a lot of value on Experience and Knowledge. Just ask any Squad Leader or Fireteam Leader.
