Editing my response:

At first I thought this was no big deal and that I'm sure it was the right call. However, after doing a little research I found out that Harvey was discharged from the Navy with an "other than honorable" or "dishonorable" discharge according to Harvey himself at the rank of O2 (though I believe the correct term would be a 'Dismissal'). The discharge came from his behavior as an Officer and was confirmed that it has nothing to do with his sexuality - though this article does not show that.

This decision is well beyond my pay grade, but when there are MoH recipients, heroes, and very influential politicians, I am not sure how Harvey became the person of choice other than it being some odd attempt to show off the Navy as being "PC".

In my opinion, if you are going to name a Naval ship after someone, they should at least have served honorably or served as a politician who had great influence and showed sacrifice in other ways. I am glad such a man lived who fought for the right of others and it is a tragedy that his life was ended in this way because of hatred..We should honor such a man. However, I don't think naming a ship after him is the best way to do it with his Naval history. Just my two cents.

I am conducting more research.

If they are going to name a ship after someone lgbt why not that transgender seal? Or i am sure if they looked they would find another sailor or marine that was gay and honored for heroism.

MSgt (Join to see) - Because that SEAL used the Trident to sell a book.. "Navy SEAL Warrior Princess" - you've got to be kidding me. I'll take the same stance NSW did, "She did not earn the Trident, HE did. There has never been a female Navy SEAL." BUD/S is wide open for everyone, but to this day, none have made it through nor attempted it.

But at least they didn't get booted out of the navy or suspected with having sex with an underage boy like Milk did. The navy should have been able to find a better candidate if they wanted to name a ship after someone lgbt. Would rather see a ship named after a shameless self promoter or a suspected pedophile?
