How This Native Educator Is Keeping A Tribal Language Alive

Interesting article. A few years ago my wife and I were visiting the Passamaqouddy Reservation at Pleasant Point, Maine. At the community dinner we noticed that many of the young people entirely spoke the Passamaquoddy language. In talking with one of the elders he stated that the language was close to dying out but a push to prevent that was begun and the cildren were basically immersed in it from childhood through teenage years at school. This is happening with other Northeast tribes as well, such as the Penobscots and Maliseets.
