The last couple tours were rough. I've lost a wife due to Iraq tour. I never wanted that again. Internet overseas is horrible and costly. The best way to stay in touch is getting a mobile wifi with a local carrier, phone time at the mwr and writing letters. I hate the last one, but it's what my current wife looked for most and means the most.

Writing letters is all the communication between wives, girl friends, and parents, was the only way, back then. When you are home it might be interesting in reading what you wrote to her. I wanted to read mine I sent to my parents, but they threw them away before I got back. Cherish what you have. I'm beginning to sound like Dear Abby. Lol

Great article, I'm glad my wife was stubborn and stuck with me. Hopefully this will be a teaching aid for leaders to share with their soldiers.

SGT Justin Anderson, Thank you for your response. I've always said the speed of the leader is the speed of the team, and this falls in that category.
