What a great article. I could've shared a link to it on social media. Instead I'm providing a link to this discussion on RallyPoint in hopes that members here will also have some good suggestions to add, and visitors can reach the original article from here.
For my own idea, I remember my first care package from home while serving in Vietnam. I wrote thanking my mother and suggested that she use popcorn as a packing material. It's a great shock absorber.
She complied and this time when I wrote to thank her, I asked that she include a salt shaker. "You ate the popcorn?" she asked. Of course, that was why I really wanted her to use it. It's not just a great shock absorber, it's edible.

Sir, one of the most epic care packs I saw someone get, was home-baked cookies and Mason jar cakes. As for me, I got the adopt a soldier packs.
