I think the War Powers Resolutions give him the authority to act. He needs to inform Congress, not ask for permission, which I think he did. We already have about troops on the ground in Syria, about 1000 or so. I think he is on very safe ground here whether you support the strike or not.

Yes, 90 days, then Congressional approval or withdraw. Not sure how a missile attack fits in.

Trump wastn't the only one that did something similar and I doubt it was improper (Bill Clinton did similar strikes on many occasions). What many now find ironic is the response from the respective parties depending if it was their guy or the other party's guy doing it.

SPC Saundra Teater - Good points in your post. My thoughts on this. They (Syria) crossed a very huge moral and ethical line when they gassed their own people. What about the outrage when Sadaam gassed the Kurds and killed and maimed 1000's? That stuff just don't go away. Secondary effects lead to generations of problems. We (US) have troops on the ground. Assad is in desperation mode IMHO. What's to keep him from using it again, but this time on our troops?

SPC Saundra Teater - It should be the US striking first. Americans are leaders not followers. They will either follow us or get out of the way.

I'm not so sure that's true. We did not lead into either world wars and other conflicts, and our standing in the political world didn't change. I don't consider that a good argument. I'm not saying that we are wrong in our actions. Someone needed to draw that line that told them their actions were wrong. While I accept that, I have to wonder why this was not a coalition of other countries that felt the same way.

SPC James Harsh thanks for the situational read/share, very informative. POTUS did a great deed IMHO.
