How Wheels May Soon Become Obsolete For Mars Exploration

There hasn't been an overload of science posts worth of posting of late... What I have found are companies or individuals who are taking advantage of the imaging by NASA on planet Mars as sent by Perseverance and Ingenuity just to name two sources of imaging (Ingenuity only sends its images to "Percy", which does the actual transmission to Earth stations... We have had imaging from other rovers as well and they all have one thing in common with Ingenuity being the exception, and that is the rovers are all wheeled equipment...

I found a great video from "Astrum", a YouTube Channel... Here is a brief description as provided by Astrum:

Astrum believes that wheeled rovers used for exploration on planets, moons, asteroids, etc. may not continue very longer due to the rise in "smart" devices or robots... This video takes a look at the advances made by companies producing quasi intelligent robots...,which could take the place of rovers in the near future because the technology is quite advanced...

I suggest watching this video in FULL SCREEN WITH SOUND SET FOR COMFORTABLE LISTENING.
I hope you enjoy the world of NEW robots, that may be out of this world... LOL!

This video is eye opening, especially lidar combined with quad leg designs. I am concerned about the amount of power needed to run these advanced designs? What is the difference in battery usage between wheels and legs? These video tend to highlight the positive and not the continued challenges. Great stuff coming in the future, hopefully solid state batteries will be developed and continue to improve.

LTC John Shaw - I didn't delve into the battery usage for these robots, but I would think that it will take much more batter power to operate them... That said, batteries have come a long way in a relatively short time..., and one would have to analyze how long these robots could function on a single charge before having to sit idle while recharging... I don't know if solar would charge them fast enough... Then there is the Martian winter, which is quite long and the temperatures very cold... I am sure there will be more videos addressing this issue and if I find any, will post them...
