It's not that I am lacking empathy, I think there are better ways to deal with problems than are being done now. 1. I don't believe in a mandated minimum wage. One should get paid for their value to a company. More people will get jobs is we eliminate the minimum wage. Entry level jobs are not meant to provide for a family. It is better to force fathers to provide for their families than the Gov't. 2. There are less expensive ways to provide a quality education than going to Gov't schools. In my county, it cost about $9k per year per child. If a voucher of $7k is given to each student for free choice of school, education will be the best in the world and we will save tens of millions. 3. Everyone has access to healthcare. It may not be the best, but it will take care of most problems. People want the best without paying for it. If everyone would save a little per paycheck over the years for a medical savings account, most future health care will be taken care of.
We need to minimize the interference of Gov't in our lives.

Your article supports vouchers. If a local Gov't school does a good job, use the voucher there. If a private/religious school does a good job, spend the voucher there. In either case, the parent and not the Gov't decides where to educate their child. Competition will make both systems better.
