You'd find this of interest, esp the ending...James Mason did a fairly credible performance, though he was far taller...the ending illustrates why I suggest the film, there's quote by Churchill just at the end, due to his having been lost precisely because he'd realized only too late, at the end, what that German maniac really was...he'd definitely been involved in the whole thing, though the movie with Tom Cruise, while a quite good film, historically, didn't go into his role in what actually had happened, which I did wish had at least been covered somewhat, I'm not saying that to minimize what the others did, if course, the memorial to their efforts was well deserved, certainly, I merely suggest this film as a rather little remembered look now at a somewhat different piece of the whole episode, that most have rather tended to forget over time, that's all I'm trying to say...the whole episode is illustrative, to my way of thinking, how there can be serious efforts to correct such horrid self-serving eventually, even though such efforts eventually happen way too late, unfortunately, to ultimately do any good, other than as an historical retrospective...that doesn't minimize the heroism invokved, of course, it's merely an historical observation, you understand....

Nice post - thanks! So many amazing acts of bravery and courage in troubling times and places around the world. Also reminds me of the heroes of die Weiße Rose (the White Rose). Plenty of books, info and vid clips about them on the web. Link is to one of the more recent movies.

Thanks! Yes, had seen years ago. When it first came out there was a website for the movie and a brilliant trailer, just a closeup of the keys of a typewriter moving and putting out brief messages. Did a cursory look to include but didn’t see it, must be floating around the web somewhere.

Have also read/seen clips about the Edelweißpiraten (Edleweiss Pirates).

So much history out there that I’m still becoming aware of. Glad these and other stories from around the world are being seen.
