A guy at the grocery store stopped me - looked at my working dog and said "I've got friends who are Rangers" - I replied, "I've got gay friends too" - he was shocked, didn't know what to make of that reply - I walked on, smiling. (It was a JOKE - so take it as such).

The Mrs. complains that I can drop off to a sound sleep at any location in an instant, that and my ability to weave a tapestry of profanity when I greet a fellow service member :)

Mine gripes about that too. I told her the training to do it was easy, just hump 80lbs of gear 12 miles with not sleep for about 60 hours, going to sleep will no longer be an issue.

Mine is so pissed that when she sees me sleeping she wakes me up so I can be awake as well, but I just zonk out a minute later. :) I tell her she can try to wake me when I take a dirt nap.

1SG Dennis Hicks - I have a habit of to sleep in my easy chair of the evening, normally a very early riser. She would wake me up and tell me to go to bed! Still, not as good at it as I was at one point. I used to be able to catnap while riding in the back of a M113. One hand through the grab loop in the ceiling and I was set.

My wife used to wake me up when I had spent all night on SDNCO. One week I just happen to catch a Sunday Morning where I was relieved at 0200 Monday. My unit did a "Green Line" Deployment Prep at the Airfield, which moved quickly to Amber then presently we were "Red Line" loading on the C-130s. Turned out to be an exercise and we conducted round robin Day Assault Landings at Osan AB, Korea for three days. We then flipped to nights for 3 days.
I arrived back at our stomping grounds 2 weeks later at 2000. I had slept most of the flight back (commercial) so there was no real clean-up, except cleaning personal LBE and weapons, and our COC took advantage since we were already into the night. We were granted the whole weekend off once we were done.
Anyway I drove up at Home Station about 0200. I had gotten a message from my wife at the unit's CQ desk where my wife had called asking me to mow the lawn once I got home. I knew it was dated the day I would have gotten off SDNCO 2 weeks prior but also knew my wife would be waking me early the next morning to mow that lawn.
So at 0210 I pushed the lawnmower out of the garage and started it right under our bedroom window on the little square piece of turf located there.
After a lengthy discussion (once I finished), she never woke me up after I had been on duty the night before.
'Nough Said.
