In D.C. region, Night Out builds bonds between police, communities they serve

A siren wailed.
On so many streets on so many nights during this tumultuous year, District residents have painted signs and raised their voices in protest.
They do this once a year. It's great that the police do this, but why only once a year? Large cities like Houston, Dallas, Chicago, New York, could do this too. Even once a year is better than not do it at all.
On Tuesday night, the streets were filled just the same, but the mood was a little different. It was National Night Out, and in the District — as well as across the country — residents got together with police to reinforce relationships.

Great post SGT (Join to see). This maybe the thing that is needed across the US to strengthen the bond with law enforcement and the communities.

Yup, in my neighborhood we had a Night Out. Everyone turned their porch lights on, gathered at a local church about 1/4 mile away, ate Watermelon, drank free water and sang Kumbaya. Meanwhile, local thieves were caseing those houses with the lights on. I can remember a "Nights Out" when Martin Luther King was assassinated. We all turned on our porch lights and gathered at curbside with our Shot Guns and rifles, sending a massage: don't even think about coming down here." More effective than eating Watermelon.
