That was interesting, the Japanese aircraft held in reserve to defend the homeland that were destroyed on the ground. The no longer controlled the ground, air or the sea but still wouldn't give up. Some of the last combat sorties that weren't going to change the end of the war, Japan had already lost but wouldn't come to grips with that and cost lives that didn't need to be lost. Nothing they could do at that point was going to change the outcome.

There was an underground Zero factory at Tachikawa AFB. The base theater was a re-purposed wind tunnel.

Until the very end the Japanese kept telling their people that they were winning the war. They tried to hide the German surrender from them as well.
