Actually, it is the pork politicians that won or lost. Military just provides the budget for their reelection. It would be interesting to see what was presented by the DOD planners and what was included in the proposed budget that will most certainly be revised. The people with the biggest club wins.

Sigh, I hope we are not going back to the 90's with the budgets again. I was only a LCpl at the time, so take this as a junior Marine memory. I maybe remembering it wrong. I remember being told that I could not qualify on the rifle one year. They did not have enough money in the budget to buy ammunition for training of non-combat arms MOS's. Or at least that is what we were told.

I'm waiting for the day the Marines finally get on their own. That cut in navy's money only means one thing, hard fiscal cuts are coming to the marines. As top officials readjust funds for navy interests.

In truth the Marine Corps does have its own budget, it's just not clearly identified in the larger picture (the end of the article mentions this). That said, the budget is focused on Marine Corps readiness objectives to be "First to Fight" when America need us today & tommorrow, which is why we are here. We don't spent time or money trying to get me to reinvent ourselves. We are what we are, we need what we need, we get what we get, and we stay "Always Faithful"!

The Marine Corps has it's own budget because some of our money comes from USMC for disaster operations and some combat and the other comes from Navy along with Supplemental money from SOF fro support missions. (Seabees)

The main money support from Navy is for facility maint of the basses. Operations and Training funding is all USMC money. A lot of people do not know this but the AMPHIBS ships money is half and half USMC owns half of the ship for the budget.

SOCIAL Ossining Crowley the Marine Corps will never be cut from the Navy. The Navy provides the Marine Corps with it's Religious and Medical personnel. These are non-combatant billets. The reason this is provided by the Navy is because EVERY MARINE male/female are considered a Combatant. Your MOS may not require you to engage in direct combat, but everyone's first responsibility is to pick up a rifle and kill, when necessary.
