PO3 Steven Sherrill he's getting his political feet wet right now. If war kicks off, you can damn well bet they'll be pushing for him to run!

He never struck me as the type to want to be a politician. Even ones that are pretty hood like Colin Powell he has all right political instincts for the presidency but he himself just wasn't interested in the office neither was Norman Schwartzkopf and they were both approached to be candidates they just weren't interested. Colin Powell had to be begged in order to take positions of National Security Advisor and Secretary of State.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - I will counter your question with another. When was the last time a politician with clearly stated and defined goals actually was willing to work with other politicians to make those goals happen? Washington is broken. Badly. It needs a person with strong character who will speak plainly. I think Mr. Mattis is that type of person. I agree with you completely that if a war kicks off he will be one of the primary explaining folks. As a retired General, he at least has an understanding of what it means to be sending troops into battle. Realistically it is we the citizens of the United States who need to start the process of changing things in DC. We need to start by not accepting the A or B option. Not accepting a "lesser of two evils" mentality. Lesser of two evils is fine when choosing a restaurant, gas station, hotel, or other service, not so much when it comes to choosing our President. I will give you another food for thought, who would have won the election had Bernie, Cruz, Christie, Bush, Rubio, Carson, and the others appeared on the ballot with those who were on the ballot? What percentage of the popular vote would that person have garnered? I honestly cannot say who I think would have won, but I don't think it would have been either Hillary or Donald. I do think that whomever did win would have done so with 30 to 35% of the popular vote, so that person would have begun their term in office knowing that they need to prove to 65 to 70% of America that they are worthy of the job.
