Somali pirates hijacked MV Ruen in the Gulf of Aden. A distress signal was received by the Indian Navy on the UKMTO portal and the Naval Maritime Patrol aircraft on anti-piracy patrol was diverted and over flew the MV Ruen. An Indian Navy warship has intercepted the hijacked ship which is nearing the coast of Somalia.
Adding to the hijacking by Somali pirates, the Iran backed Houtis are firing missiles at ships crossing through a choke point in the Red Sea to divert supply vessels away from Israel. This is forcing ships to avoid the Red Sea area to face threats in the Gulf of Aden. India is determined to ensure the safety of shipping through the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
