While most of No Better Place to Die will focus on the junior officers, NCOs and EM who fought so gallantly at La Fiere Bridge during the D-Day invasion, we will also spend some screen time with the general officers like MGen Matthew Ridgway (CG, 82nd AbnDiv) and BGen. "Jumpin' Jim" Gavin (ADC). This was one of the only battles in which general officers spent some time actually busting caps on the line with the soldiers they led. Gavin, the youngest officer at the time to reach flag-rank was famous for carrying an M-1 rifle and reportedly used it during the early part of the fight. Ridgway had a habit of wearing a frag grenade strapped to the shoulder straps of his combat gear. The generals are shown here some time after the battle when Gavin was promoted to two-stars.
