The usual responses... "See, this proves guns are safe and that if terrorist don't have guns, they'll commit crimes with other weapons." No, it doesn't prove anything about guns except that someone armed with a knife or an axe is limited to targets within his reach, while a gunman is a threat to anyone within half a mile, and that all the victims here survived.

SSG John Gillespie - It clearly demonstrates that whatever the tool, a miscreant intent on doing harm will have devastating effect.

Guns more correctly firearms are NOT the problem. Attitudes and mindset is the problem.

LTC (Join to see) - Sure, but these two attacks in China prove that it's also highly situational. Those were relatively well organized groups acting in concert in a crowded space, not alone.

The incident you created this thread around shows very clearly that the lone attacker's ability to inflict harm was severely limited by his lack of access to a firearm. Yes, he resorted to using a knife and a hand axe and, yes, he would have been able to inflict greater injuries with a larger blade, similar to the ones used by the groups in China, but he didn't. If he had access to a firearm instead, he would have been able to inflict even greater damage before the police could respond to the threat.

Just because a firearm and a knife are both weapons does not make them equivalent in terms of the ability of their wielder being able to kill or inflict injury while using them. Without exception, the firearm is the deadlier of the two due to the relative ease with which fatal wounds may be inflicted. Saying that the attitude and mindset of the attacker is the problem, and not access to weapons which allow them to inflict greater harm, completely ignores the validity of attempts to limit their ability to inflict harm in the first place. You may as well say that everyone should have access to chemical weapons as well, since it's just a tool.

SSG John Gillespie - Here we have a 17 year old, no training, with an axe and knife causing mayhem in a predominately disarmed country. The point is, a person intent on doing evil will find a tool to facilitate their purpose.

LTC (Join to see) - Of course. That doesn't mean that it's equivalent by any means though.

In this case, lack of access to a firearm definitely saved at least four lives. They may be injured but I like to think that, if I were to find myself in that situation, I would prefer injury with a fighting chance of survival to death in an instant with no means to defend myself. Call me crazy, if you like; I prefer the term "civilized."

What stupid thing to bring up, you forgot bathtubs, loose rugs, peanuts, ice, food in general, the sun. Everything kills you, some things you have more control over than others. Like the father who shot his son a week or two ago. His stupidity with a guns and a ricochet killed him.
Remember terrorist are not impeded by any law, restriction, or licsence, whatever.

As for the topic Isis takes credit for most everything because who is going to do it? Not a person or politician in this or any other country.

Authorities need to confirm each and every attack before giving any acknowledgement to the Daesh or other terrorist group.
