Is the universe 26.7 billion years old?

For questions like this I think back to the end of Michael Crichton's Lost World book (JP II). Thorne was explaining to Arby how we laugh at the scientific thought from half a millennium ago, and in another 500 years folks then will laugh at our scientific thoughts now. I'm too lazy to copy the whole quote, but assuming you can find the book I recommend reading the last chapter. I've read both of Crichton's books to my son (he's a bigger dino nerd than I ever was).
