Five months after American-backed forces ousted the Islamic State from its last shard of territory in Syria, the terrorist group is gathering new strength, conducting guerrilla attacks across Iraq and Syria, retooling its financial networks and even targeting a vast new pool of recruits at an allied-run tent camp, American and Iraqi military and intelligence officers said.

Cities and troops are a piece of cake, Ideology not quite so.

we will never defeat this ideology as it is deeply rooted over many centuries; altho I think Trump indicated a few months ago that he kicked their ass and exterminated them all!

Religious extremism isn’t something that will just be defeated militarily. Islamic and Christian extremism has been around for centuries. The people in that culture, society, region has to subdue. Much like Western culture has to subdue the extremism that plagues it. I don’t think folks are recognizing the historical connections and non stop cycles of religious hate. Radical ideology is defeated with education and cultural evolution or growth. Lets remember the Crusades to control Jerusalem didn’t end in peace, it was a truce while the hate festered and passed down for generations. Just my opinion.
